What We Believe

The Pentecostals of Greenbrier is a Christian church. We believe the bible is the divinely inspired word of God that we each must obey. We are followers of Jesus Christ and find that in our relationship with him we are charged, challenged and changed, and through him we are raised,  renewed and redeemed, and because of him we truly have a much better life.

About GOD

“God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24) He is the only “Just” God (1 Timothy 1:17) No man can see him (John 1:18 & John 4:12)

  • Exodus 33:20
  • Colossians 1:15

About Jesus

Jesus Christ was God manifested in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16) and in him dwelled the fullness of the Godhead bodily (Colossians 2:9). He also was and is the Light of the world (John 8:12) as well as the Word made flesh (John 1:1 &14)

  • John 5:43

About the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is simply God. John wrote that God is a spirit, (John 4:24) and there is only on Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 12:11; Ephesians 4:4). Therefore, the term “Holy Spirit” is yet another way to define the one true God. The spirit is revealed and received through the name of Jesus. He is not a separate person with a separate identity who comes in another name. Jesus said, “The comforter which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name (John 14:26). Also Peter declares that the prophets of old were moved by the Holy Ghost (2 Peter 1:21)

  • Romans 4:17
  • John 14:26
  • 2 Timothy 3:16

We believe that God is, Father in creation, Son in redemption, and Holy Spirit in regeneration.

About Salvation

At the fall of mankind in the garden there was born a universal need for salvation. In our humanity we cannot posses the ability to withstand sin in our flesh alone. Paul reveals this truth to us when he wrote, “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:9-12). Salvation is only found in an active faith in Jesus Christ, “Repent ye and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:15). This Gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, signifying to us, that through repentance of sin, baptism in Jesus name and the infilling of the Holy Spirit, we receive salvation.

About Eternity

We were made after the image of God, (Genesis 1:26) therefore we understand that we were created to live forever. However, how we spend that eternity will be up to each of us, we will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with him through forgiveness and salvation. For one to be eternally separated from God is hell, yet to be with him is eternal life in heaven, Heaven as well as hell are literal places of eternal existence.
